Sally,

You have some innovative ideas here in your bright and decorative works.

I especially like the one with the many many stick people gathered and then gradually spreading out in size and spacing.

Young art, and I hope you keep developing your vision along these lines. I see them as

subjective, but with "story".. something to ponder

Hi Sal,

I have had a good look at your website and I would like to say something about the opening message; "yes it certainly does brighten up ones day".

Your work is quite naive in its nature, I mean that in the nicest way, not as an insult and it really does shine through, it makes my workRainbow Coloured flames, Art for Large Spaces with Simple Patterns. look dismal. I think you have got an individual touch that makes one smile and would certainly go well in so many places, if they were placed in a large corporate office, it would make the staff feel good all day.

In particular I noticed painting; 001.1_1_1, as of all of your work and due to the bright colours it tends not to show any signs of your suffering, however it is almost like a raging flame that is surrounded by more flames and the only way of escape is to swallow the burning to put out the fire in order to gain control of one’s self. That is what it tells me and I think it's  the one I like most.

Well done you for finding that hidden smile that you are sharing with everyone.

Sally,

I viewed your website and I do like your very spontaneous mark making and expression. Your mark seems to be untrained and there isabstract Person in Purple and Fluro Magenta something beautiful about the simple mark that will attract many. Others will think you possibly need to move forward using your simple style with more training with technique. I think it is a choice you will need to make as you continue to create.

Hi Mary,

Thank you for the review. I was advised to take art classes when I first started to paint. I elected not to as 'My Style is My Style' and I did not want anyone to interfere / influence it. This took considerable courage to stand by my belief in my art. My art has incredible technique to achieve what I paint. It is very deliberate and takes patience and time. I do not draw my image on canvas first. It is all done from copying directly from my sketches.

I will be strong and not succumb to suggestions of becoming a trained artist. I am more likely to train people on how to achieve "My Style" should they be interested. Having said that I may teach myself how to paint some of the more traditional art style as I progress. Naturally it would be my version of it and not that of an art tutor. I will never abandon my Signature Style or customise it to suit others unless it is for a commissioned art work.

Cheers, Sally J

Figurative artwork in fluro green and blue on white

I commend Sal for putting herself out there so vibrantly.  The use of art to help and further a cognitive and emotional exercise is an amazing achievement in itself and I'm personally so proud to see what this artistic expression has done for her as an artist and generally as a person.

The series 'hedgy' is the one I most enjoy.  It uses the thinner, brightly coloured lines to portray humanoid like figures in a bright abstract way.  The distinctive use of geometric shapes contrasts sharply with the flowing lines that provide the context of connection between the objects.  The figures all have a quality of participation within their environment, ranging from appearing to be in full movement to almost stationary, simply sitting down.

 REVIEW  2014, Justin L – United Kingdom

Rainbows of Fire, Yellow and Blue Sunrays x 4 images together, Orange Overpopulation and Purple Flower

I really like your swirling fire pieces in particular, they are very expressive and are quite cheery with the bright colours, I also like the arrangement of your straight-line rays painting arranged in a group of four, that would make a very nice feature on a lounge room wall.

Your paintings are very absorbing, they remind me of those prints which you need to stare into intently in order to see the hidden image.

I had to laugh when I saw the figures painting on the left hand side, when four of the figures have prominent "sad faces", for some reason this cracked me up, it's a very ironic take on a stereotypical concept where every stick figure always seems to be pictured happy but in a way that is not art imitating life properly.

I also like the coffee cup / floral arrangement, I could see that hanging in a kitchen which would work quite well, maybe at the breakfast bar catching the sun in the morning.

REVIEW 24th July 2014, by Daniell B Latta (Visual Images)

Sally J is an emerging artist living in the Dayboro area Queensland. Sally uses her art work as therapy to assist managing her disabilities.

Like most artists, Sally creates as an emotional expression.

Her style, fluorescent bright colour and simple in designs, yet structured in pattern.

005.1

Stepping in close:

The depth and variant in stroke and paint, adds to the emotive mood and feeling of uncertainty, and fluctuations in state of mind. The struggle or fight, and battle being won by the intense colour of strength, overpowering the fluctuating mood changing figures.

Everything is broken down into its simplest and most expressive form: colour and facial expressions.

Stepping back:

An intensity to draw attention and brighten a room

This piece of art would make an instant statement in a modern minimalist styled home, corporate venue and hotel lobby.

I also see her work on walls in children's bedrooms, play centres, child care etc where colour stimulates, and simplicity speaks to simple understanding.
